At the Skuodas waterworks, we reconstructed the existing water treatment filters and renovated the iron removal station building.
New filters were installed together with all auxiliary equipment required for their operation. The filters have a maximum capacity of 70 m³/h and a daily treatment capacity of 1,200 m³/day. The filtration process was fully automated, eliminating the need for manual supervision and filter backwashing. The control cabinets and the control room were also upgraded.
Raw groundwater containing iron is pumped from artesian wells to the water treatment plant, where it is aerated in pressurised aeration vessels and enriched with oxygen. Air is introduced into the water upstream of the aeration vessels. The water then flows to pressurised sand filters, where iron is removed during the filtration process.
After treatment, the filtered water is supplied to the municipal water distribution network. Before being delivered to consumers, the water is disinfected.
